The Department of Environmental Engineering (DEE) was established in 2009 and it was the first to offer BA degree in the Environmental Engineering in Shenzhen.Currently, there are 12 faculty members in the Department ofEnvironmental Engineering, including 2 professors, 4 associate professors, 2 lecturers and 4 assistant professors. Among them, 1 professor was elected in the “Guangdong Thousand-hundred-ten Talent Project”, 7 were elected as the Shenzhen Recruitment Program of Global Experts (known as Peacock Plan Talents), 1 local high-level leadership talent of Shenzhen, and 3 were awarded as Li Yuan Excellent Young Teachers of Shenzhen University. Some of them have won awards such as National Natural Science Award (second class),the First Prize of the Excellent Scientific Research Achievement Award in Higher Education Institutions issued by Chinese Ministry of Education, and “Excellent Environmental Sci-tech Workers” and “Young Science & Technology Award” issued by the Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences.

The areas of expertise include physicochemical treatment techniques of refractory and toxic organic wastewater, development of wastewater treatment and reuse of heavy metal, eco-restoration technique of black and odorous water body and contaminated soil and the microbiology analysis of its mechanisms, and the environmental behavior and fate of emerging contaminants in Shenzhen, etc. The department has established high-level teaching and research platforms such as the “National Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Environmental Engineering” and the “Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Ecological Remediation”.

The department has long-term cooperation with several renowned hi-tech companies such as Shenzhen Water Group, Shenzhen Municipal Waste Disposal Center (Yunan Environmental Garden), Dongjiang Environment, and Zhongxing Ecological Environment Institute. There are also joint student programs with institutes such as Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Tongji University, and South China Institute of Environmental Science of MEP, etc. In addition, we has established academic and researching collaboration with Research Center for Eco-environmental Sciences of CAS, Institute of Advanced Technology of CAS, Food Inspection and Quarantine Technology Center of Shenzhen Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention, etc.
